Science Department Philosophy

The practice of Science is, above all, a way of thinking. It is the application of common sense with rigor. It involves careful observation, intuition, patience, asking the right question in the right way, creativity in devising a way to answer the question, critical evaluation of results, and effective communication. It is, in short, problem solving.

The Holy Ghost Prep Science Department believes that the mental discipline involved in Science has universal application in any endeavor. Critical questioning and evaluating are intellectual tools without which no properly educated person is fully equipped to function in the modern world.

The Department believes that the above intellectual abilities are best fostered by in-depth exposure to the principle disciplines of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. This exposure should include extensive laboratory investigation and application of appropriate modern technologies.
