SpeakUp! event will offer HGP students, parents the opportunity for open dialague

Balancing schoolwork, achieving good grades, filling out college applications, making the varsity roster or the school play, having an active social life—these are just a few of the various pressures high school students face every day.

For some, talking about dealing with these pressures can become even more taxing than the pressures themselves.

Thanks to a local organization called SpeakUp!, Holy Ghost Prep students and parents are invited to speak up on Thursday, March 16 about their daily life challenges in a confidential, yet open environment. Breakout sessions will be held to encourage students and adults to speak openly about critical issues, such as anxiety, body image, depression, mental health and other critical topics facing today’s youth.

This event is open to all members of the HGP community. In fact, the more participants we have, the more fruitful the conversations end up being. So even if you have attended a Parent Education Series event this year, please consider coming to this one too. All attendees are strongly encouraged to pre-register for this event.

To pre-register, please click here and scroll down to the March 16th HGP event.

Annual Faculty-Student Bowling event

On Tuesday Feb. 28,  18 faculty members and 12 HGP team bowlers enjoyed the Annual HGP Faculty-Student Bowling event at the Brunswick Zone in Feasterville, PA. Good food, good fun and even some good bowling were the order of the day!

The King Pin (top male faculty bowler) was Pete Puleo and the Queen Pin (top female finisher) was Moira Devlin. Both are pictured below and both are members of the HGP math department. Gerri Carmine, a math teacher herself, wisely explained Puleo and Devlin's bowling prowess, saying: "Math teachers know their angles!"

Summer Class: Indie Film and Theater

Spots are filling up fast! Interested students and parents, email Mr. Jordan at

Overview: This course is designed to enhance students’ understanding and appreciation of classic and contemporary film and theater. We will take both a critical and experiential approach to these films and plays. In other words, we will study and research them critically, and then see them performed. We will follow various works from page to stage, studying them first in the classroom and then watching them come alive on stage and screen.

Class Schedule: Tuesdays through Thursdays for 5-6 weeks in the first half of the summer. The class should be completed by the third week of July at the latest. In scheduling those 5-6 weeks, we will do our best to accommodate everyone’s summer plans. Last year, we scheduled around the service trip to the Dominican Republic. We can do the same for the week of July 4 if necessary.

Classes meet from 9:00-noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Wednesdays are field trip days. On those days, we will meet between 10:00-11:00 and return to school between 4:00-6:00, depending on the activity. Trips will only be planned on class dates. One Wednesday trip will be an overnight trip to New York. We will leave Wednesday morning from Holy Ghost and return to school by noon of the following day.
