Historic and Iconic HGP Tower Earns Well Deserved Rennovation

After more than 100 years and 2 brutal winters, it is time to replace the spires.

Beginning in the next few weeks, the tower and spires of Cornwells Hall will undergo repairs and renovations to make sure they survive the next 100 years.  The last two winters greatly accelerated the aging of the concrete and stone spires necessitating their replacement.  This will include significant engineering and design work that will take several months.

What most people do not know is that the tower includes a massive iron vessel in its core that was used to capture rain and to provide running water for the entire building well before public water supplies became available.  The spires, made of cast concrete, have survived long past their predicted life span, and need to be replaced.  While several repairs have been done over the years, it is time to make a full restoration to the tower.

Plans are already underway to make accommodations for school events that would normally use the entrance at the base of the tower.  We are excited to begin this project to secure the most iconic architectural highlight of our campus for the future
