Summer Service Trip to the Dominican Republic
HGP students and teachers continued the annual service trip to San Juan de la Maguana in the Dominican Republic. Some students worked in a local parish sports camp, while others worked on improving a playground for children in the local community.

Summer Reading Information
For the Summer of 2015, you are required to read at least three books or packets of readings. Students in AP English classes are required to read more.
At each grade level, you will be assigned 2 readings for sepcific classes. For rising sophomores, juniors and seniors, the 3rd reading is your selection from your summer reading mentor. The reading assignments are listed by Class Year and Subject Area. The readings of choice with a faculty mentor are also listed below (readings posted, selected and assigned during May, 2015).
Students entering Algebra II, Math Analysis and Math Analysis Honors are required to do summer work which should help you refresh your algebra skills. Students must complete the packet for their specific class. The student should show all work for the exercises in a copybook. Students will be assessed on this material during the second week of school.
An Algebra Review is included for student reference. Should the student need further review it is recommended that he look online for resources that might help explain the topic. Khan Academy is one resource that the student could access.
Please also note that the assessments that are done within specific classes will be counted as a graded assignment for that class. The assessment that is completed with your chosen mentor will be recorded on your report card as a S(atisfactory) or U(nsatisfactory). Do the reading!
- Assessments for Reading #1 will be done during the first week of school in English classes.
- Assessments for Reading #2 will be done during the second week of school in appropriate classes.
- Assessments for Reading #3 will be done during the third week of school during a special Assessment/Assembly period. Be prepared!

Sophomore College Guidance Program Announced
HGP Students Participate in TEAMS Competition in Dallas
Freshmen Anthony Baum, Eric Booth, Connor DiMarco, Matthew Hofmann, Sean Kerrigan, and Mark Pabalan and sophomores Carlos Abarca, Adam Gasiewski, John Kiczek, Jacob King, Luke Profy, Nolan Raghu, and Patrick Taylor travelled to Dallas, Texas to participate in the national TEAMS competition at the 2015 National TSA Conference. The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national organization of students engaged in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Holy Ghost students have participated in the Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science (TEAMS) since 1998. TEAMS is an annual competition for middle and high school students designed to help them discover their potential for engineering. Each student team 1.) submitted a written project on Biofuel Technology prior to the competition; 2.) presented a prepared presentation describing their plan for sustainable energy in a community; and 3.) participated in an on-site problem solving competition to design, build, and test an alternative energy device that meets given criteria and create a mathematical model to predict future performance of the device. All team members also had the opportunity to attend a TEAMS Leadership Session where they had a chance to meet students from other schools around the country and participate in a workshop involving The Five Practices and Ten Commitments of Leadership.
