Summer Reading:  Make sure you have taken time to complete your summer readings, recorded appropriate notes and are ready to go!  Full details on summer reading were emailed to students and parents on Friday, June 12.  The information has also been included in Ghost Stories throughout the summer.  You can also access the complete information by clicking here.

Opening of School Forms:  Upperclassmen parents and guardians need to complete the Statement of Understanding, Loan of State Textbooks, Emergency Medical Contact Information, Contract for Administration of Acetaminophen and School Reach forms by Friday, August 14.  You can access these forms by clicking here.  If you forget your username/password for access to these Finalsite forms, please click the link under the login button.

Student Portrait:  Upperclassmen ID pictures and portraits will be taken on Tuesday, September 1.  If you would like to order school portraits of your son, please follow one of the two options. You can place an order on line at using the Picture Day ID: LW625211Q0 OR fill out this form completely and enclose cash, money order or check payable to Lifetouch and have your son bring it with him to the photographer on Tuesday, September 1.

Dress is full school dress code, including a blazer (for students getting pictures/ID ONLY!). Students with exaggerated hairstyles (including bleached hair!), facial hair, earrings, other body piercings, ”body art”, and other violations of the Holy Ghost Prep dress code will not be issued ID cards.  Furthermore, students will be sent home, serve an extended detention, and may be suspended from classes until these problems are remedied.

Student Schedule:  The most up-to-date student roster can be found through PowerSchool and EHGP.  Login to either system and click on the student schedule icon.  You can also print out a schedule for Back-To-School Night.

Holy Ghost Preparatory School welcomes three new faculty to the start of the 2015-2016 school year.

Patrick McGhee '03 joins our English department and will help maintain the long-standing tradition of excellence with our Forensics team.  Patrick received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and his masters from Cabrini College.  He joins us from Our Lady of Good Counsel where he taught 7th and 8th grade English and initiated the Forensics team.  Patrick will be teaching freshmen and senior level English classes.

Moira Devlin will be an integral member of our Math department.  Moira received her Bachelor of Science and Masters of Mathematics from St. Joseph's University where she was given the Mathematics Graduate Education Award and the Mathematics Award.  Moira was a member of the Alpha Epsilon Lambda in graduate school and the Pi Mu Epsilon in undergraduate studies. She comes to us from La Salle Academy where she taught 6th, 7th and 8th grade math.  In addition to her responsibilities as a Math teacher, she will also be teaching our summer PSAT class and the math section of our Summer Pre-9 Class.

Tom Saxton '95 joins our Social Studies department.  Tom holds a Ph.D. from Lehigh University and is currently working as an adjunct instructor at Holy Family University.  Prior to his work at Holy Family, he was teaching at Notre Dame of Maryland University.  Tom's extensive research and understanding of the writing process will provide a solid foundation in the courses he is teaching

Summer Facility Updates

  • A complete patching and painting of the entire exterior of the Firebird Fieldhouse is complete.
  • Phase 1 of the clock tower project should be wrapping up shortly.  The demolition is complete.  Once the roofing is done, the scaffolding should come down.  We expect the tower door to be available to use before the opening of school.
  • The project to cut a new driveway entrance for the fieldhouse should begin next week and should take about six weeks.  As you may be aware, the changes to the fieldhouse entrance are required and must be made given our planned use for the HGP Activity Center project across Bristol Pike.  In addition to a relocated and widened entrance/exit, improved crosswalk markings and lighting will also be completed.  Please note that the current driveway entrance to the fieldhouse will remain in use until the new one is complete and opened to traffic.
NHS USED BOOK SALE - Monday, August 24, 2015

The National Honor Society Used Book Sale will be held on Monday, August 24, 2015, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, in the Library.  This Book Sale is for the Junior and Senior classes only.  As part of our technology initiative, all classroom books are provided for the underclassmen.

Summer Reading Information

For the Summer of 2015, you are required to read at least three books or packets of readings.  Students in AP English classes are required to read more.

At each grade level, you will be assigned 2 readings for sepcific classes. For rising sophomores, juniors and seniors, the 3rd reading is your selection from your summer reading mentor. The reading assignments are listed by Class Year and Subject Area. The readings of choice with a faculty mentor are also listed below (readings posted, selected and assigned during May, 2015).

Students entering Algebra IIMath Analysis and Math Analysis Honors  are required to do summer work which should help you refresh your algebra skills. Students must complete the packet for their specific class. The student should show all work for the exercises in a copybook. Students will be assessed on this material during the second week of school.

An Algebra Review is included for student reference. Should the student need further review it is recommended that he look online for resources that might help explain the topic. Khan Academy is one resource that the student could access.

Please also note that the assessments that are done within specific classes will be counted as a graded assignment for that class.  The assessment that is completed with your chosen mentor will be recorded on your report card as a S(atisfactory) or U(nsatisfactory).  Do the reading!

  • Assessments for Reading #1 will be done during the first week of school in English classes.
  • Assessments for Reading #2 will be done during the second week of school in appropriate classes.
  • Assessments for Reading #3 will be done during the third week of school during a special Assessment/Assembly period.  Be prepared!
