HGP Fine Arts News:

Senior Portfolio trip to NYC

Eighteen Senior Portfolio students traveled to NYC on Monday November 23, 2015.  The students had guided tours at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Museum of Modern Art. The museum educators at MoMA took the students to see and discuss such works as Andrew Wyeth’s “Christina’s World”, van Gogh’s “Starry Night” and Cezanne’s “Bather” to name a few. The educators led students through discussion and analysis of the works to help them better understand the significance of the art on the context of when, where and by whom it was done.

The docents at MMA bring students to a vast selection of works ranging from pre-historic to contemporary works. This seventeen acre museum holds over 2,000,000 works in the collection. In both museums HGP art students had time to self-tour.

School president Greg Geruson and David Smallen accompanied art teacher Karen Smallen and the students.

Day of Figure Drawing

Monday November 30th was an all day figure drawing workshop in the art studio. Sophomores, juniors and seniors used their class time and free periods to work on their observational drawing skills. Several students produced drawings that will benefit their portfolio presentations to colleges. In the past, this has been offered as an after school one time class. The all day workshop allowed more students the opportunity to participate.

Archbishop's Christmas Party for Children

Holy Ghost Prep has been invited this year to help support the annual Christmas Party sponsored by the Archbishop and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.  The event consists of a holiday party for 400 children within the Archdiocese.

In conjunction with our family oriented Christmas Blessing program and in the spirit of kids helping kids, the Fathers’ Association is coordinating a gift drive with the HGP student body.  We have been given the names and a wish for 30 children (ages 5-7) whom will be participating in the Christmas benefit.

There will be a signup sheet located in the office of Mr. Fitzpatrick for the boys to select a child.  We ask that when a student selects a child that they use the wish as a guide to purchase a toy that will be distributed to that child during the party.  The suggested maximum amount for a gift should be $25.00.

Please return the wrapped gift to Mr. Fitzpatrick’s office during school hours or you can return them at the Christmas Blessing drop off on Sunday December 13th from 10am to noon. This will be the absolute deadline for we need to deliver the gifts to Philadelphia by December 16th.   Please affix the label that you received on the package.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mr. Joe Pawluczyk at 610-952-2667 or joe_pawluczyk@verizon.net.

Thank you in advance for your generosity!   God Bless!
