Important News from College Guidance

The Maguire Foundation

Holy Ghost Preparatory School is a partner with the Maguire Foundation, a philanthropic enterprise  founded by James J. and Frances Maguire in October, 2000 that focuses its resources on education. The Maguire Foundation provides grants to grade school, high school, and college students so that they may have an opportunity to benefit from a quality education.

The Maguire Foundation’s mission is grounded in the teachings of St. Ignatius Loyola of being men and women for others. The foundation believes that partnering with educational institutions to provide scholarship assistance to children and young adults will help build a strong foundation for success.

HGP’s partnership with Maguire Foundation brings unprecedented value and opportunity to students. The partnership provides scholarship assistance to freshmen each year and supports them through four years of high school, as well as college students with scholarship opportunities to support students in selected institution’s through four years of matriculation.  The goal of the Maguire Scholars Program is to support and enrich the leaders of tomorrow.

The Maguire Scholars Program

These need-based scholarships are available to seniors in high school who are applying to select colleges that are members of the Maguire Scholars Program (see list below). All applications are due to Ms. Dougherty in College Guidance no later than February 21, 2017.  If you have any questions, please email

To be eligible for the Maguire Scholarship Program students must:

- Demonstrate financial need by having an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of $0-10,000.

- Qualify for admission to selected institutions (see below).

- Have at least a 3.0 GPA or equivalent in high school.

- Be engaged in community service and/or extracurricular activities.

- Participate in regular counseling in accordance with university requirements.

- Agree to participate in an annual Maguire Scholars Program event.

- Complete a Maguire Scholars Program application (include a letter of recommendation from supervisor of a volunteer/community service or extracurricular activity).

- Student or family must contribute at least $5,000 per year to tuition, room, and board ($1,000 at a community college).

The following is a list of participating colleges: Boston College, Cabrini College, Chestnut Hill College, College of the Holy Cross, Drexel University, Fairfield University, Fordham University, Georgetown University, Gwynedd Mercy University, Immaculata University, LaSalle University, Loyola University Maryland, Neumann University, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Penn State - Main Campus, Philadelphia University, Rosemont College, Saint Joseph's University, Temple University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Scranton, Villanova University, Widener University, Community College of Philadelphia, and Montgomery County Community College.

Reminder to All Seniors - Applications Due - Report Decisions on Naviance

The last day to submit a request for a transcript, before Christmas, is Friday, December 16, 2016. Make sure you look to see if you have any January 1st deadlines as they must be submitted by 12/16/16.  You will be able to request transcripts again on January 3, 2017 when we return from Christmas break.

Copies of letters of acceptance, waitlist, deferral as well as scholarship awards should be brought to or emailed to Ms. Kudla at in the College Guidance Office.  This information is confidential and is very important to keep our Naviance statistics up-to-date.


HGP art students enjoy senior portfolio trip to New York City

A group of 21 Holy Ghost Prep senior art students recently traveled to New York City for guided tours of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MoMA) and the Museum of Modern Art (MMA). To read more about the trip, click here.

HGP 2016 #GivingTuesday "Wish List"

Once again, we invite our entire HGP community to save the date for our annual #GivingTuesday campaign this Tuesday, November 29th. In honor of #GivingTuesday and in the spirit of Thanksgiving, we encourage you to support HGP "wish list" items that were selected by our faculty and staff. These items will be used to support the academic programming offered to our students. Make an impact by investing in our faculty, our staff, and our students! 

Dominican Republic Mission Trip Informational Meeting

When: Tuesday December 6 from 7:00 p.m. tio 8:30 p.m.

If you are interested in finding out more about HGP's Mission trip to the Dominican Republic this summer, please come to this meeting in HGP's Dining Hall on Tuesday, December 6. We will discuss cost, dates of the trip, and other general information. Parents/guardians and students are invited and this is the only informational meeting for this trip. Monday, December 5: December Mothers' Guild Meeting/Christmas Dinner 

The Mothers' Guild December meeting will be held in concert with their annual Christmas dinner. On behalf of the Mothers' Guild Class of 2020, you are cordially invited to dinner on Monday, December 5, 2016, following a 7 p.m. celebration of the Eucharist in the Chapel. We encourage all moms to attend!

2016 Mothers' Guild Craft Show was a Success

The Mothers' Guild would like to thank everyone for participating in the 2016 HGP Holiday Craft Show. 

A big thank you is in order for our 2016 Tri-Chairs: Margaret Finney, Joy Casey, and Denise Wolfe. Congratulations on a job well done! As well, our Committee Chairs did a fabulous job: Gloria Abarca, Keya Watkins, Kathy Galasso, Jean Nycz, Colleen Ginnetti, Teri Seibert, Colleen Pawluczyk, Jen Cannon, Marie Wilson, Karen Wirgau-Yohe, Terese Martin, Becky Gabriele, Amy Leipziger, Mary Ann Quigley, Julie O'Connell, and Courtney Elliott. Your time, talent, and hard work helped to make this year's Craft Show the best yet! Our students will benefit greatly from your dedication. Thank you, all Craft Show Chairs!! Thank you to our Mothers' Guild President, Anne Marie Horgan, for your guidance and dedication to the 2016 Craft Show.

Sincere thanks to the Fathers' Association for all your help, especially with keeping the traffic flowing smoothly all weekend long!

So many in our community volunteered their time, donated generously, baked wonderful treats, and contributed in so many ways! This includes moms, dads, students, bakers, and crafters. To all of you, we say thank you! All of your contributions added greatly to our success!

In keeping with our Spiritan tradition, all leftover food from the Craft Show Cafe was donated to the Trenton Rescue Mission. Thank you to our Cafe chairs and volunteers for making this possible.

Tony McBryan of Custom Made Comfort would like to thank everyone for their orders. If you placed an order by November 15, be sure to pick it upat the the December 5th meeting to receive a shipping refund. The December 5th meeting will be also be the last opportunity to order for Christmas.   



2016 HGP Christmas Ornaments  

The 2016 HGP Christmas ornaments are now on sale. The ornaments are $15 apiece or two (or more) for $25, while supplies last. HGP chorus members sing at Katherine Drexel Shrine ceremony  

Members of the Holy Ghost Prep chorus (Charles Lawall, Garrison Moore, Adam Gasiewski, Brandon Cimino, Patrick Byrnes, and Ryan Fitzpatrick), along with members of the Nazareth Academy chorale, sang at the Mass celebrating the Closing of the Holy Doors of Mercy on Sunday, October 13, 2016 at the Katherine Drexel Shrine.
Fr. Chris McDermott was the celebrant and spoke of the importance of forgiving others (as Christ forgives us) during his homily. The Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament will be leaving the Shrine in the near future due to the decision to sell the property. The chorus was proud to be a part of this special day. Holy Ghost Prep thanks the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament for their generous service to the poor for the past 125 years and wish them well in their new home.

Craft Show Parking: Thank you for making the Craft Show a success. Please forward your feedback and recommendations for next year's event.  

Libertae Fall Cleanup Service Project: Saturday, Dec. 3, 8 a.m. (Rain date is Sunday, Dec. 4, 10 a.m.)
Father/Guardian and son service project of leaf removal at Libertae. Students who sign up are eligible to earn service hours. If you have a gas-powered leaf blower, rake, and gloves, please bring them to the event. Also, bring a bottle or two of water in order to stay properly hydrated.
