Holy Ghost Prep celebrates an all-French Mass
Father Thomas Nasta, pastor of Our Lady of Ransom parish in Northeast Philadelphia, celebrated an all-French language Mass for students in Claudine Nicolay’s sophomore, junior, and senior French classes on Feb. 28.
Nasta, a 1974 Holy Ghost Prep graduate, served as the celebrant of the Mass. Father Nasta thinks that it is important for students studying foreign languages to hear those languages in everyday settings like Mass. Nasta admits that he had to practice the parts of the Mass in French for roughly a week prior to the Feb. 28.
“But it all came back to me,” says Father Nasta. “It was just like riding a bike.”
Students in Mrs. Nicolay’s classes did the readings and the responsorial psalms, all in French.
The all-French Mass went so seamlessly that Mark Whartenby, Holy Ghost Prep’s director of campus ministry, is planning for future all-Latin and all-Spanish Masses.
