HGP senior Kevin Dineen receives scholar-athlete award
Senior Kevin Dineen, one of the leaders on Holy Ghost Prep’s Bicentennial Athletic League (BAL) championship winning cross-country and track teams this year, was one of 38 area high school students recognized at the 19th annual Courier-Kiwanis Scholar-Athlete Awards ceremony on May 24 at the Bucks County Visitors Center.
One of the top students in the senior class and an All-BAL selection in both cross country (where he helped the Firebirds to the PIAA District 1 Class AA team title last fall in addition to a league crown) and track, Dineen will continue his running career at Fordham University in the fall.
“Kevin has excelled in the classroom and in three sports,” says Holy Ghost Prep athletic director Jim Stewart. “He is a leader in so many ways. We are very proud that Kevin’s living of our school mission has paid off for him.”
The Scholar-Athlete Awards were presented from the Dick Dougherty Scholarship Fund, which happened as a result of a longtime collaboration between the Bucks County Courier Times and the Levittown-Bristol Kiwanis Club. The scholarship fund was established in memory of the late Dick Dougherty, a former sports editor at the Courier Times.
