Two teams from each grade school are invited to attend: a 7th grade team and an 8th grade team, four members to each team. An adult, preferably the teacher, must accompany the students. The contest will consist of three individual tests and a team set of problems. The first individual test will contain questions regarding arithmetic operations, the second individual test will concern geometry and the third, pre-algebra/algebra. A tie breaker round will be administered and used only if necessary. The team set of questions will be varied. No calculators are permitted. Recognition will be given to the top schools and individual students.
For the second year, the top scoring 8th grade boy and the top scoring 8th grade girl will be awarded $ 1000 scholarship to be applied to his/her freshman year tuition at Holy Ghost Prep or Nazareth Academy High School.
We ask for a $ 20 registration fee from each school to assist us in defraying costs. Upon receipt of your school’s registration via the US Postal Service, Sister Teresa will email your teacher confirming the registration and giving the google account by which student’s names can be inputted.
Please pass this information on to your 7th and 8th grade math teachers and encourage them to participate. It is our hope that this competition will motivate your students and increase their interest in mathematics. A form is included with this letter to indicate your participation. Please return the form to Sister Teresa Mary at NAHS by September 26, 2014. We look forward to meeting your teachers, your students, and their parents!
Nazareth Academy and Holy Ghost Prep will also be conducting a 6th and 7th grade math competition at Holy Ghost Prep in Spring 2015. Please inform your 6th and 7th grade teachers of this so that they can mark their calendars. Information for that spring competition will come in February 2015.
