NEWS FLASH: PEDDIE MEET IS OFF!

A late cancellation: I just found out at 2:15pm, the meet is cancelled.

Posted Thursday 01/27/11 2:30 PM
Snow Issues
When safely possible, athletes are encouraged to take advantage of the lack of cars on the road and the good footing in a few inches of snow to jog lightly in their local areas. Certainly stretching and or core/quad work can be done. Wednesday's activities are all cancelled here at the school. For Thursday, even if we have off from school, at this time we have permission to attend the meet at the Peddie School, given that it is in the evening. By the early evening, most roads should be plowed and salted for safe travel. If taking the bus, please be early so that we can leave early and give ourselves plenty of time.

Exam Week Practices
The required practice days are very minimal relative to other in-season sports. We expect responsible student-athletes who can continue their participation AND EXCEL on their exams through diligent study sessions. There will be practice after dismissal on Tuesday, January 18th. Given that the meet is moved, we will have practice on Wednesday and Thursday as well. Thursday will have two practices: one after the first exam, and one after the second exam, to accomodate those who are finished after the first exam period. We expect athletes to make at least half of the practices this week to both study well and continue their development. Practice on Tuesday and Wednesday will not be extensive, but are still important for development and recovery in preparation for the final meets of the season. Remember, team members attend team practice! And they spend almost all of the rest of their time during exam week studying!

Thursday night, JANUARY 27TH, 2011 -- Peddie School Scoring Dual Meet
ALL team members are expected to attend and compete in this scoring dual meet. All other athletes should speak with Coach Meistering about their preferred event for the meet. Bus transportation will be provided from school at 5pm for those staying and studying.

Only 1 month left for most!
Note that the season is nearing a close for those who will not qualify to the Meet of Champions or the State Championships! Get those Junior Varsity and Varsity Letter performances done! Take advantage of the remaining opportunities to excel! We have two scoring ALL participate meets remaining: the Peddie School, Thursday evening, January 20th, and the Lawrenceville School, Saturday afternoon, February 5th! Be ready to perform and help our team! Whether you can score or not, demonstrate a positive and winning attitude! Be a competitor, not just a participant! Succeed! Excel!

Missing Practices

Team members attend team practice. We have very few team rules and overall requirements for membership. Team membership is a privilege, not right.   Exceptions are limited and include such things as orthodontist appointments, sibling confirmations, and funerals. Accomodations are made at the discretion of the head coach, at times in consultation with the athletic director or principal as needed. Missing practice to participate in another school activity, no matter how wonderful the other activity might be, is NOT acceptable. Approximately 3 unexcused absences result in dismissal from the team. Regrettably, some team members still have not accepted such responsibility for membership on the team.

Monday, December 27th, Practices Cancelled
Due to the snow storm, ALL event group practices are cancelled for Holy Ghost Prep Track & Field on Monday, December 27th. Hopefully now some better understand what was going on practicing on Christmas Eve last week....

Holidays and Practices
Please note the importance of training over the Christmas Break, even when we don't have practice, as noted in the previous bulletin. (Christmas Eve) Friday's practice for sprinters/jumpers has been changed to required for varsity only AND moved to Tyler State Park's Boathouse area at 9:15am. No sprinters/jumpers should come to HGP on Christmas Eve. Note that to view more than a week of the meet and practice calendar, click on the small calendar icon on the Calendar title bar. Remember upon our return to HGP in 2011, all members will be expected to compete in both the Haverford Holiday Invitational on the afternoon of January 5th, as well as the scoring Peddie Meet on the evening of January 20th. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Have heart! Keep Working! Never Give Up!
After the Eagles game on Sunday, 12/19, it is again certain that the spirit of the team is so important to its success! We have had many personal bests so far. It would be easy to settle back and be satisfied with ourselves, BUT let's not do that! Train over the challenging Christmas Break! Set your goals higher and work to achieve them! Have confidence in your ability and a positive attitude to work hard and compete well! Believe in yourselves, your coaches and teammates, and train -- and then perform! --beyond your expectations! Review the team's recent successes at Lehigh and the Bishop Louglin Games (click on meet to see results; note the "ink" our team received for the BLG!). Note: Athletes returning from Christmas Break in 2011 in worse shape than when they left in 2010 may be dismissed from the team. You must at least TRAIN TO MAINTAIN!

Peddie Scrimmage Tuesday,12/14, for ALL team members!
A general lineup for Tuesday night's meet is posted in resources below. ALL members will compete. Bus leaves HGP at 5:15pm. Athletes may get picked up at the meet by parents, or by another adult if a travel release form is given to Mr. Meistering. A specific lineup will follow.

Let the games begin!
The meet lineup for our first meet is posted in resources below. If anyone who is listed is unable to compete for any reason, communication is necessary, as substitutions can not be made at the meet: each athlete can only run 1 event. If there are only 3 athletes present from a relay, then there is a major problem for the team member who caused unnecessary harm to the other team members. We hope that those who have recently been somewhat sickened heal in time to participate. Those listed as subs may compete if others do not recover, but we do not make subs go to the meet unless we are sure they are competing. Note that there are no spikes allowed! And that there is NO FOOD OR DRINK in the main fieldhouse area for anyone! Parents -- not even you with coffee! Please everyone respect the rules of the association so that our team does not get dismissed from the facility! Athletes must arrive at the facility by the posted arrive by times and may leave after appropriately warming down. Athletes do not have to stay for the entire meet. Please remember to have a travel release form if traveling to the meet in school transportation, but not returning in such.

Known possible conflicts with School Events
Feedback is needed from the top varsity (those with potential state qualification opportunities) regarding interested participation, non-participation, or potential adjustments in the following situations: 12/18/10 Xmas Charity Ball or the Bishop Loughlin Games; 2/19/11 Frosh/Soph Date Dance and/or the Meet of Champions (might not be a problem); 3/13/11 Nike Indoor Nationals or the Mother-Son Dance.

Welcome to the 2010-2011 Indoor Track and Field Team!
Once we accept that the season is held during the winter months (it's cold) and to get in shape there is a lot of hard work that needs to be done (it's a lotta work!), then we can enjoy our training and have fun achieving!

State Meet Information
The order of events is in the meet entry form on the PTFCA website, as well as posted here. There is usually a reasonably accurate time schedule in the meet program available for purchase. The team will be staying at the same place as the Kevin Dare Invitational, following a similar itinerary. See that bulletin with the link by clicking above on "view all bulletins" or just click here for the similar state meet letter.

Practices Added
Stay tuned to these bulletins and the calendar below for changes due to weather conditions. President's Day practice added Monday, 9:30am, at Tyler for Sprinters and Distance Runners. If Tuesday is a snow day, then 3pm practice at Tyler State Park's dam area, unless main gates are closed, and then moved to Tyler's Craft Center (Earth Center for the Arts) entrance.

Hungry Athletes please communicate to Coach Meistering

There is a meet that we were originally not attending. Given the snow and various cancellations, we will entertain, if there are enough interested athletes, attending the Novice Meet this Friday night. The meet is for any athletes who have not ever won a medal in a varsity level competition in high school track & field. Many of our athletes could compete if they are interested, but we may only enter 1 person per event, although there are also relays. Please plan on practicing early this week if interested and definitely see Coach Meistering about your interest.

The Weather Wins, HGP Track Loses...
Unfortunately, due to either the real snow event coming or due to the frenzy created by such forecasts, the athletic director at Lawrenceville has cancelled the meet tomorrow at Lawrenceville....sigh...  If interested, the first day that the track is clear of snow, we will provide an opportunity for those athletes interested in obtaining letter earning performances. So many of you are ready for personal bests! Pray for some warm weather in the next two weeks to cause a meltdown and then come on out and run faster than you ever have before!

Success awaits you! - IT STILL DOES - WHEN THE TRACK IS CLEAR, BE READY!
The best time of the season has arrived! Personal bests are waiting for each of you at Lawrenceville! Each of you are ready for the best performances of your life! Your hard work and dedication does pay off! If you can safely arrive at the meet, you will wreak havoc on your past personal best performances! Congratulations to the 4x800m Relay of Ryan Horgan, Mikey Spielberger, Sean Dooling, and Kevin Panepresso for dropping another 10 seconds as a team and qualifying to the State Championships, the Eastern US Champs, and the Penn Relays! Congratulations also to Joe Gdovin for tying the school record in the 55m Dash! Join our success! Be part of our tradition! Achievement awaits! Rest up and be ready!

Lawrenceville Dual Meet, Saturday, 2/6/10 - NOT
The Lawrenceville Dual Meet scheduled for this Saturday will take place, even if there is a lot of snow. Athletes with options should plan on arranging safe and reliable transportation with an experienced driver. There is no requirement for anyone to attend given the weather forecast. If you can't make the meet and there is a melt, we will have a time trial for letter achievements the first clear day of the coming week. See the meet lineup and related information posted in resources below.

01-16-10 Lehigh Meet

Communicaton to a coach at practice or an email is requested from everyone listed to compete. We again have tried to get everyone available into a spot in the meet to get as many athletes involved as possible. Transportation communication is also needed, if you need school transportation. Be sure to check all information included in the meet lineup posted in resources below.

Exam Week Practices

Athletes and their parents should understand that it is not realistic for students to study during all waking hours. While there may be other distractions during the exam week, students need to learn to set priorities to meet their necessary responsibilities. It is NOT acceptable for an athlete to remain on the team while not practicing at all during exam week.  As in most cases, some exceptions will be considered for underclassmen with less experience of an HGP exam week.

Practice will be abbreviated so as to not to monopolize an athlete's time, but will still be held as scheduled with the expectation that most, if not all, athletes will be responsible enough to work out and still study intensely and appropriately enough. Your understanding of the necessary continued physical and academic development of all is appreciated.

12-31-09 Practice Optional due to Inclement Weather
Due to the weather conditions and subsequent questionable driving issues, practice will occur, but is optional for athletes to attend. All athletes should workout safely on their own where possible. The oft changed meet lineup is final and at this time school transportation will only be provided for one athlete. Call Coach Meistering at 267-304-2400 with issues.

Snow Cancellation 12-19-09
The meet at Lehigh University on Saturday, 12-19-09, has been cancelled due to inclement weather. See www.tfcaofgp.org to verify if interested. Athletes should when safely possible workout over the weekend outdoors, and when not possible, do some aerobic or resistance activity indoors: stationary biking, elliptical training, weight-lifting, stretching, or even using a treadmill (the least desired for an extended workout). It is important to continue your development. Remember to check the calendar and former meet and practice schedule for holiday meets and practices over the next couple weeks. The next meet is Wednesday, 12-23-09, again at Lehigh. Most likely the same lineup will be used, changing according to those who have not yet communicated regarding issues with such! Plan ahead! Be responsible! See everyone on Monday. Note that there are also meets on Saturday, January 2nd, and Wednesday, January 6th (NOT the 5th as originally published). See Coach Meistering on Monday or email him with holiday absence issues.

Peddie School scrimmage; ALL athletes expected
Athletes need to work on their studies as necessary each and every day and night during study hall/free periods, as well as weekends, to meet their team responsibilities. MIssing practice or a meet should not be so easy an option for some of our underclassmen! Be more responsible! Stay on top of your work! Plan on studying in the library on Tuesday until it is time to leave for the meet. Figure out a meal plan either at a nearby establishment or with a bag dinner. Come on the bus and already have completed your homework for the evening! Basketball and hockey players make it work -- you should too!

It is important for ALL our team members to be on top of their calendars so that changes to the lineup do not inconvenience families, especially over the holidays. Please review the changes and notes posted on the revised lineup. Whenever possible, we will enter all available athletes, even if slightly out of their event range, as there is no good substitute for competing!
