Welcome to our Class in Spiritual Psychology.Irenaeus of Lyon once said"How does a tree give glory to God? By being a tree. And how does a human give glory to God? By being a human being."
If I were to subtitle this course it would be The Sacred Science of Being Human (Me). Throughout your life you have had the opportunity to study many subjects. This course will give you the opportunity to study yourself. If this sounds narcissistic let me state clearly that one does not come to know one's self in a vacuum, but always in relationship with God and others. Hence, the Great Commandment has very practical significance:
36 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?"
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22: 36-40)
Or in the words of St. Theresa of Avila:
“It is foolish to think that we will enter heaven without entering into ourselves.”
Another way of saying this is that we are created in the image of the invisible God and so to know one's self is to get a glimpse of the infinite whom we call God.
I pray you find our time together informative and formative. I leave you with this prayer:
Avancez de plus en plus en pureté de cœur, en simplicité dans toute votre conduite, en oubli du monde et de vous-même, en amour de Dieu, en zèle pour votre sanctification et pour celle des autres.
