Fine Arts

The Fine Arts Department seeks to develop in students the ability to communicate proficiently in at least one discipline: visual art, music, or theater. Through development of skills in these areas, students learn to recognize the unique gifts in themselves and others. They also learn to understand the importance of discipline and to have clear concepts of how the arts link us all to the broader human purposes of creative problem solving, historic perspective, and physical, emotional, and spiritual growth.

Goals and Objectives

The goal of the Art Department is to guide students on a process of self discovery through art. The objective of the Art Department is to expose students to as comprehensive a fine arts program as possible within time and budget limitations. The fine arts include drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and design. The visual arts program expects the following from the students:

  • to do work that is reflective of their interests and needs.

  • to create art, learn to evaluate their own work and that of others.

  • to respect the accomplishments of themselves and others.

  • to actively participate in class and develop curiosity about art methods, materials, and history.

  • to be supported through the display of work throughout the school year as well as to have the opportunity to have work exhibited in larger venues such as the archdiocese, county, and state.
