Art
The art program at Holy Ghost Prep is modeled on foundation level collegiate courses in drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture. Students are equipped with technical skills that enable them to push boundaries and explore the outer reaches of their creativity. For some students, an interest in art is second nature. For others, it is a revelation that changes everything. Thanks to the rigorous art program at Holy Ghost Prep, many Ghost graduates have gone on to become professional artists, designers, architects, photographers, and educators.
Holy Ghost Prep students have their art work displayed both in our spacious Geruson Gallery and in various Bucks County art shows, where they often bring home awards. Students have exhibited in the Bucks County High School Art Exhibition, the Phillips’ Mill Youth Art Exhibition, the Archdiocesan Secondary Schools Annual Juried Art Exhibition and the Imprint Exhibition hosted by the Wharton Esherick Museum.
Holy Ghost Prep maintains an active chapter of the National Art Honor Society, which organizes the annual Fine Arts Festival on campus each spring and travels to New York City to tour the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art each fall. The Art Department hosts workshops with the American Institute of Architects and partners with the Philadelphia Museum of Art through the prestigious Art Futures Program. Additionally, a number of Holy Ghost Prep students enroll in the Pre-College Program through the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts each year. The most recent addition to the art program at Holy Ghost Prep is a summer course titled “The History of Modern Art,” which includes a field trip to both the Barnes Foundation and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
A commitment to service is one of the core components of a Spiritan School and as a form of service the Art Department at Holy Ghost Prep participates in the Memory Project. The Memory Project is a non-profit organization that coordinates high school artists to make drawings of children from developing countries. Holy Ghost Prep has drawn portraits of children from countries such as Mexico, Nicaragua, Afghanistan, Syria, Russia, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Cameroon to name a few. To see the children in Mexico receiving the portrait drawings from the Memory Project, please watch the video below.
