Campers can choose 2,3, or 4 weeks. Each week offers different classes and activities for students to learn from the arts, to communication, to robotics.

WHO: Students (male and female) entering the 7th or 8th Grade in Fall 2019. The Holy Ghost Prep Summer Program welcomes all students regardless of race, color, religious beliefs, sex, or national or ethnic origin.

WHAT: Whether acquiring new math skills, preparing for a practice examination or improving reading comprehension and writing skills, students will be challenged to grow at the Holy Ghost Prep Summer Academic Enrichment Program. Through hands-on activities, small class sizes, and challenging curriculum, students will gain new academic skills and confidence while enjoying their summer. Students will have the opportunity to pursue many different activities and courses lead by Holy Ghost Prep teachers and graduates throughout the four week camp.

Campers will also prepare for the Holy Ghost Prep application process by practicing for the interview and taking an HSPT practice test - the same test used by Holy Ghost Prep for the entrance exam.

  • MATH - WEEKS 1-4: An intensive four-week entrance exam preparation! Students will acquire problem solving and quantitative thinking skills Topics will include: word problems, operations, series and sequences, and certain algebraic and geometric concepts.

  • ENGLISH - WEEKS 1-4: An intensive four-week entrance exam preparation! Lessons and activities will improve students’ reading comprehension and writing skills. Topics will include: vocabulary, synonyms, antonyms, analogies, grammar, structure, and the writing process.

  • SCIENCE - WEEKS 1-4: The Science Program is designed as an introductory laboratory experience. Through hands-on projects, students will learn important scientific theories while exploring the physical world around them. Basic biology and chemistry will be highlighted during these four weeks.

  • FORENSIC SCIENCE - WEEK 3: Forensic Science is an introductory class in which students will have the opportunity to be a part of a crime scene investigation team and to explore how scientific principles are used in analyzing physical evidence found at crime scenes.  The focus will be to introduce students to some of the specialized fields of forensic science, the principles of science and technology upon which they are based, and the application of these principles to various analyses of crime scene evidence.

  • ROBOTICS - WEEK 1:  For the first week of Summer Enrichment, students will attend a robotics class taught by our robotics coach, Brendan Petcaugh. Students will be using the VEX IQ robotics platform to design, construct, and program robots to perform different tasks throughout the week. They will be working in groups to learn the basics behind the engineering design process, the VEX motors/sensors/microcontroller, and the VEX Coding Studio. Student groups will compete against one another in various challenges, culminating in a master design challenge at the end of the week.

  • ART - WEEK 1: The art class will be a fun, hands-on learning experience that introduces students to the techniques of printmaking.  Students will learn to hand-carve linoleum based on a design, apply ink with brayers and operate the printing press to create works of art

Basketball

Holy Ghost Prep Head Coach Tony Chapman will conduct his 40th camp with the aid of the HGP coaching staff plus current and former HGP players.  Both boys and girls are invited and the camp staff will consist of both male and female counselors. Campers should come dressed to play. Individual instruction, a personal evaluation, and an emphasis on fundamentals will be the focus of the camp.  Past guests have included: Phil Martelli, Head Coach of St. Joseph's University and Fran Dunphy, Head Coach of Temple University. Baseball

Varsity Head Coach Greg Olenski is joined by the HGP coaching staff and current and former Varsity players to direct and counsel at the HGP Baseball Camp this summer.  The methods and skill building techniques that we use at camp establish the fundamentals necessary to prepare the camper for his maximum achievement level. To that end, five former players are currently playing at Division I colleges and our 2016 graduate, Nolan Jones, is chasing his dreams in the Cleveland Indians organization.  Individual instruction and team competition highlight each day culminating in the popular skills competition on Friday. Soccer

 

The purpose of this camp is to develop the skills of individual boys and girls within the concepts of teamwork and sportsmanship. Our goal is to help each player improve his or her skills and knowledge of the game and to help them be the best player they can be. Morning sessions will focus on individual instruction such as foot skills and small-sided play. The afternoon sessions will focus on futsal, team play and competitions. Each camper will receive a camp T-shirt.

 Players are required to wear shin guards and soccer cleats. Please dress appropriately for the warm weather. Sneakers should be packed and brought each day for activities in the field house.

 HGP Camp Director and Associate Head Coach David Simpson holds licenses from the USSF, NSCAA, Coerver Coaching, Brazilian CBF, Scottish FA and UEFA. Simpson has coached at various levels throughout the USA and Europe including State & Regional ODP, NCAA Division I, ODP National Champions, Assistant Director of Coaching Youth Club as well as boys and girls high school teams. Simpson is joined by Varsity Head Coach Ken Lawson and Freshman Head Coach Amanda Kirby.

Learn to Row

 

HGP's Learn to Row camp will introduce campers who are rising 7th-10th graders, boys or girls, to the basics of rowing. Rowing is HGP's newest sport and has grown tremendously in three years, placing all athletes in the top ten in the City in their first year and sending an athlete to a Division I school with a scholarship in its second.

Campers will learn the fundamentals of boat handling, terminology, a high school season, and of course how to row! We'll do both sweep (one oar per person) and sculling (two oars per person) on the sheltered, calm waters of Lake Luxembourg in Core Creek Park where Holy Ghost Prep and Villa Joseph Marie HS practice during the year. Coaches include HGP's Head Coach and VJM Director of Rowing J. D. Bridges and other coaches from both schools, as well as current athletes and alums from both programs.

(Campers interested in Learn to Row with HGP must be at least 5 feet tall and be able to swim)

Ultimate Frisbee

 

Holy Ghost Prep’s Ultimate Frisbee Head Coach Tom Croskey is hosting a week long

Ultimate Frisbee camp this summer for all levels of play. With the help of current

players and alumni, camp participants will have the opportunity to learn everything

necessary to play and compete at the highest level of one of the fastest growing team

sports in America. No experience is necessary.

 

Counselors will teach everyone how to flick, huck, cut, mark, stack, and run a few

different zone defenses. Take this opportunity to learn the basics, to enjoy the feeling

of running down a long floating disc, or to get a head start on competitive high

school Ultimate Frisbee.

Lacrosse

 

HGP Lacrosse Camp, directed by Ryan Tessler, features past HGP Alums who compete at the Collegiate level will also be there as counselors, offering expertise in defense, dodging, shooting, faceoffs, goalie play and stick skills.  Our coaching staff will be supervising the camp.

 

Many players from our program have gone on to compete at the Division 1, Division 3 and MCLA levels. We have had two alums in Brett Manney '04 and Greg Wozniak '13 go professional in the sport. Campers will get to experience the HGP Varsity Experience learning from counselor demos, drills, video and competition.

 

All campers should provide their own equipment including: helmet, gloves, elbow pads, shoulder pads, stick, cleats/sneakers, water bottle, and a mouth guard

The Drama Club will be running three different three week camps for campers of various ages:

The Drama Club’s 3 Week Camp Production of Legally Blonde Jr. 

Young performers will really have a chance to shine on stage in this 3 week camp production of Legally Blonde Jr. Our limited cast size offers individualized attention and an opportunity to stand out and be featured. Whether you're a seasoned performer or new to the stage, this  camp will help develop your acting, singing, and dancing. Maria and Andy Theodorou from Bensalem's The Drama Club will lead the camp, held in Holy Ghost's new Frederico Performing Arts Theater. 

This camp is open to boys and girls entering grades 5-8.

June 10th-28th; performances June 27th and June 28th at 5:00 pm.

Monday-Friday, 9:00 am - 2:00 pm (with aftercare available until 5:00 pm)

For those students not yet on summer break, we will have evening rehearsals from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM Monday, June 10th - Friday, June 14th.

Track and Field

 

The emphasis of the camp is on boy and girl athletes enjoying a positive experience having fun, developing leadership skills, and learning about all aspects of Track and Field, including the personal traits needed to be successful in sports, school, and life.

Coach Hugh Mundy and high school coaches John Mundy, Joe Gdovin, and Chuck Lumio will instruct athletes in all areas of track and field. They will be assisted by Holy Ghost graduates and current track and field athletes. The staff also includes female athletes from area girl’s high schools.

Athletes will participate in the jumps, throws, sprints, hurdles, relays and distance events. Grouped by age and gender, athletes will rotate through stations to learn about various events and topics. The daily schedule includes warm up activities, event explanation and skill practice, film study, discussions on various aspects of track and field including mental preparation, diet, rest, and an introduction to weight training. The camp will end with a mini-meet and awards will be given to the top participants.

Tennis

 

The HGP tennis camp will be held at the Bensalem High School tennis courts at 4319 Hulmeville Road, Bensalem, PA 19020. USPTA Certified Teaching Professional and current HGP head tennis coach Justin Goulet will run the camp with assistance from HGP junior varsity tennis coach Tom Eckerle and a highly qualified staff of top collegiate and high school players. Campers should come dressed to play with their own racquets. The camp will feature a combination of stroke production, strategic drills, and match play. Both boys and girls will greatly benefit from the camp.

Rock Band

This camp is designed for the developing young musician who is interested in learning the rock idiom. The program is open to boys and girls in grades 6 - 8 as well as high school students. Large ensemble, music theory, individual coaching, and small ensembles are all part of this learning experience. The emphasis of the program will be on traditional rock band instruments. However, all instrumentalists and singers are welcomed and encouraged to attend.   

Mr. Pete Devine will also be offering guitar lessons at Holy Ghost Prep on Tuesday from June 4 to July 23 from 10 AM to 4 PM. You may sign up for any or all of the eight available lessons. Lessons will cost $35 per half hour lesson. Forty-five minute and one hour lessons are also available. Payment for lessons is due at the first lesson. Scheduling has started so please respond quickly to assure a spot if interested. Summer is a great time to jump start playing progress.
