2021 Season Outlook: Head coach Tony Chapman ’71 begins his 43rd season at the helm of the Firebirds program with 888 wins. The Holy Ghost hoops team will dedicate the 2020-21 season to Tom “Finn” Finnegan, a longtime Holy Ghost Prep assistant basketball coach and HGP Athletic Hall of Famer who passed away on November 25. After years of being a member of the Bicentennial Athletic League (BAL), the Firebirds will play an independent schedule this winter. The move to the independent schedule still allows Holy Ghost Prep to remain in the hunt for the PIAA District 1 and state playoffs. Gone from last year’s 24-win team are a pair of standouts in sweet-shooting senior guard Tyler Mish, who signed with Division III Moravian College, and senior big man Steve Cianci, a nightly double-double threat. Despite those departures, expect the winning to continue as the Firebirds welcome a proven floor general in 5-11 senior Jack McDermott, a 6-3 wing with a net-snapping jumper in junior Shane Reilly, and some nice frontcourt options in 6-5 senior Ryan O’Hara (a part-time starter last year), 6-5 sophomore Mel Lindsay, 6-3 senior Liam Huy, 6-3 senior Tyler Schmidt, and 6-4 senior Ryan Coolahan.
