2018-19 season recap: The Holy Ghost Prep basketball team, led by a game-high 21 points from Greg Calvin, captured a share of the 2019 Bicentennial League’s Independence Division title with a 71-39 win over MaST Charter on Feb. 7.

With the win, Holy Ghost Prep captured its first BAL crown since 2012.

An impressive 9-1 finish to the regular season by Tony Chapman’s team catapulted the Firebirds all the way up to No. 2 seed in the 2019 PIAA District 1 Class 5A playoffs—behind only West Chester East. The Firebirds opened up 2019 PIAA district playoff action with a home win over Upper Merion before falling to Pottsgrove in the PIAA district quarterfinals. The close loss to Pottsgrove landed in the playback bracket, and the Firebirds did enough there to earn a coveted spot in the 2019 PIAA Class 5A state playoffs.

Tony Chapman's Firebirds opened up state playoff action vs. District 12 champ Archbishop Wood and fell 52-41 in a hard-fought game on March 8. The loss ended the Firebirds' season with a 20-10 record, yet another 20-win season in Chapman's storied coaching career.
