Coach: Justin Goulet (13th season)
2018 Record: 12-3 overall (7-0 BAL)
2018 All-League Performers: Mark Pabalan (first team All-BAL singles and doubles), Keegan Pietrak (first team All-BAL singles and doubles)
Key Players Lost to Graduation: Mark Pabalan (continuing his playing career at Stevens Tech), Bryan Quigley, Brendan Mindiak
Key Returning Players: Keegan Pietrak, John Featherstone, Will Krohn, Lou DeLuna, Chris Gasiewski, and Matt Davies
2019 Season Outlook: The Firebirds have won four straight BAL titles and were seeded seventh in last year’s District One Tournament, the program’s highest ever seed in Class AAA tennis. And despite the loss of Mark Pabalan, Holy Ghost Prep’s 2018 Grabowski Scholar-Athlete Award winner who is continuing his tennis career at Stevens Tech, Justin Goulet’s team will look to stay atop the BAL charts. Helping that cause is the return of one of the area’s top tennis players in Keegan Pietrak. In 2018, Pietrak qualified for districts in both singles and doubles, where he teamed with Pabalan to reach the district quarterfinals. There are plenty of other letterwinners back in the fold, including John Featherstone, Will Krohn, Lou DeLuna, Chris Gasiewski, and Matt Davies.
Tennis Gearing Up for the Post Season
The tennis team is 7-4 and 3-0 in the BAL. Recently, the team picked up two big wins over Lower Moreland 6-1 and CB South 4-3. In the Lower Moreland match, Keegan Pietrak and Nico Blanco won singles matches and the doubles teams of Will Krohn / Matt Davies, Louie DeLuna / Anthony Padula, Felix Flis / Albert Johnston-Ramirez, and Ryan O’Hara / Stephen Bontempo also picked up wins. With wins at Dock Mennonite and New Hope-Solebury next week, the team will win its 5th straight BAL title. The tennis team hasn’t lost a BAL match since 2014. Congrats also to Keegan Pietrak for finishing 2nd in the BAL Singles Tournament. He will play in next week’s District 1 Singles Tournament.
