National Honor Society

Our Chapter

Holy Ghost Prep is proud to host the Venerable Francis Libermann Chapter of the National Honor Society of Secondary Schools, an academic honor society rooted in providing a model of character, scholarship, leadership, and service for the entire Holy Ghost Prep community. The chapter was chartered on November 11, 1969.

Membership

The National Honor Society is for seniors who meet the eligibility requirements of character, scholarship, leadership, and service.  Eligible students will be invited to apply for membership in the second semester of their junior year. Students who are offered membership are inducted in the spring of their junior year.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Must be a Current Junior

  • Minimum 4.1 cumulative GPA at the end of Semester 1 (your latest "official" GPA)

  • No D's or F's on your transcript

  • An acceptable disciplinary record*

  • Participation in several school and community activities

  • Strong record of service towards the HGP community and our larger community

*Any student who has a major disciplinary infraction will be reviewed and possibly disqualified from eligibility. Students who feel as though something on their record is an obstacle to membership are encouraged to speak with the NHS moderator ahead of the submission of their application. While perfection is never the goal, students are asked to reflect on their disciplinary record during their time at HGP with an emphasis on their current year during application.*

Service

NHS members serve the HGP community through peer-to-peer tutoring, helping in the Main Office before the school day, planning the 3 v 3 basketball tournament, and working the concessions stand at all home basketball games. Members also assist at other school events, such as Back To School Night, Open House, and Parent/Teacher Conferences.
