HGP hires Tom Hasty as a science teacher

Holy Ghost Prep has hired Tom Hasty ’96 to teach biology and chemistry, effective this fall.

Hasty returns home to HGP with 17 years of teaching experience, including the past 12 years at Cheltenham High School. While at Cheltenham, Hasty taught AP, honor and college prep chemistry, coached the girls cross-country team, sponsored the school’s student council, was a member of the faculty committee for the National Honor Society, led the Chemistry Club, and sat on the school’s Strategic Planning Committee.

He has also taught biology and environmental science at Cheltenham High School.

Prior to that, Hasty taught at The Philadelphia School, Central Bucks South High School, and the J.R. Masterman Demonstration School.

“Tom is a dynamic individual with a passion for chemistry, teaching, and Holy Ghost Prep,” says Holy Ghost Prep principal Jeff Danilak. “He brings many years of experience and will help propel HGP’s commitment to 21st century thinking, especially when it comes to getting our boys to think creatively and critically.”

Hasty, who describes his teaching style as “student-centered and constructivist in nature,” is excited to return to Holy Ghost Prep, a place that laid the groundwork for him to pursue a career in education.

“I became a science teacher and a track coach because of my experiences at Holy Ghost Prep,” says Hasty. “Mr. (John) Mundy, Mr. (Mike) Meistering, Doc Holloway, Mr. (Dave) McMillin, and Mr. (John) Buettler were some of the most influential in my journey.”
