Returning to a Holy Ghost Prep classroom a little more than 40 years since first arriving as an incoming freshman, Dr. Raymond Glemser took his place this time in front of HGP students as part of the School’s inaugural Executive in Residence program on Nov. 20.
Dr. Glemser, a Class of 1979 alum of the School, is co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Glemser Technologies (www.glemser.com), which provides innovative information technology solutions and services for life science companies. His company, which is located in Bethlehem, PA, specializes in the development of effective approaches for the application of software designed to solve complex business challenges.
A former HGP track co-captain who also excelled as a member of student council, Dr. Glemser addressed students in AP Economics and AP Computer Science/Introductory Computer Science classes. In addition, he sat in on an AP Chemistry class that also afforded him the opportunity to speak to students about preparation for the workplace.
“I thought Dr. Glemser provided invaluable insight into applied economics and the difficult decisions that need to be made when leading a successful business,” observed AP Economics teacher Tom Murtaugh. “More importantly, he gave our students some wise advice they can apply to the rest of their lives.”
During the day, Dr. Glemser was also reunited with one of his former track coaches, Computer Science teacher Mike Meistering, and was also able to spend some time with yet another coach, John Mundy `65.
“Dr. Glemser was amazing with the students,” said AP Chemistry teacher Amanda Coopersmith. “When I presented him to the class (following a lab exercise), he talked about business and how he transitioned in college from undergrad to graduate work.
“He then explained that the best science in the world is useless unless the science can be effectively communicated to the client and the public. He also talked about creating a list of what will give (students) both joy and financial security. Basically: find what you love and can get paid to do.”
Dr. Glemser graduated summa cum laude from Holy Ghost Prep and went on to earn similar academic accolades at Lehigh University, where he majored in Computing and Information Science and minored in German. Also inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, he went on to receive a Master of Science degree in Industrial Engineering and a Doctor of Philosophy degree – both also from Lehigh.
Also a frequent lecturer at Lehigh, Dr. Glemser serves the community in which he lives and works through activities associated with several non-profit boards that focus on education. In 2002, the former HGP trustee received the Ben Franklin Innovation Award for Entrepreneurial Achievement.
