Holy Ghost Prep lacrosse captains sign with Division I schools

Holy Ghost Prep senior captains George Rusnak and Matt Rueter (pictured here with athletic director Jim Stewart) both signed national letters of intent this morning to play Division I lacrosse at Siena College and NJIT, respectively. Rusnak, who notched 30 goals and 23 assists, and Rueter, who won 73% of his faceoffs, both played key roles in HGP’s bounceback season last spring. Congratulations to George and Matt and to their families!

Thirteen alums from the Class of 1987 returned to campus last weekend for a 30-year reunion. The group took a campus tour, enjoyed dinner and drinks in Founders Hall, and swapped HGP stories until after 10 p.m. A great time was had by all.

Sign up ASAP for College Guidance's three-day college tour of Boston

Dear Parents,

The College Guidance Team has arranged for a 3-day, 2-night college tour of schools in the Boston area. This trip will include schools like Tufts, Harvard, Northeastern, Boston College, Boston University, and Yale.  This trip will take place April 3-5.

The cost of the trip is dependent on sign-ups and will include all transportation (starting and ending at HGP) by a fully insured and licensed travel company, hotel and food costs.  It is an  economical way to have your son see the Boston area and some of the schools it has to offer!

Please click here for all of the details as well as how to sign up! If you would like to have your son join us, we will need a $100 deposit check made out to “IST Campus Tours” and brought to Mrs. Campbell by November 15th!  This deposit is non-refundable unless we do not have enough participation, at which time, checks will be returned.

Space on the tour is first come, first served!

All questions should be sent to Mrs. Campbell at bcampbell@holyghostprep.org or 215-639-2102, ext. 229.

Sincerely,

The College Guidance Team

Parent chaperones needed for 2018 West Virginia trips

In the spring of 2018, Holy Ghost Prep is hoping to offer not one, but two “Taste of Mission” trips to West Virginia. While in West Virginia, HGP groups usually help with home repair and maintenance projects. The school is seeking four parents of junior and senior students (to whom the trip is open) to assist the faculty chaperones with driving and general supervision. No previous construction experience is required.

Two parents will be needed March 27- March 31, and two more will be needed April 2-6. Parent chaperones must have a valid driver’s license and proof of car insurance. Parents will also need to acquire necessary background checks/clearances, as well as complete online training modules for the school’s youth protection program. All costs for parent chaperones are covered by the school.

Details about the trip were unveiled to students on October 31.  Interested students can obtain an information sheet from Mr. Fitzpatrick.

If interested in being a chaperone or to make inquiries, please contact Mr. Fitzpatrick at jfitzpatrick@holyghostprep.org by December 15 so that planning for the trips can proceed as necessary.  Thank you!

HGP student needs assistance this weekend with Boy Scouts project

HGP student Kevin James Trusdell is building a prayer garden this weekend as his Boy Scouts project at Holy Family University's Philadelphia Campus (the one down the street from HGP) and could use some volunteers to help him.  This Saturday and Sunday, work will begin at 10:00 a,m, and end at 2:00 pm, with a half-hour lunch break starting at 12:00. The group will be digging the area out to place the polymeric sand and stones to create a good foundation for the pavers that will make up the walkway and the wall surrounding the mulch bed.
Volunteers should bring their own work gloves, if possible. Tools will be provided by a contractor brought on to the project as an onsite advisor and by Trusdell's family. A pizza lunch and water bottles will be provided.

2017-2018 Semester 1 Exam Information Schedule

For the 2017-2018 school year, Holy Ghost Preparatory School will administer Semester 1 exams the week before Christmas break, December 18 to December 22. The main advantages to this schedule are that students have a consistent workflow, follow a collegiate model, and have both a true Christmas break without the pressure of upcoming exams, and a fresh beginning with the start of Semester 2 after the Christmas holiday.
