May 1, 2020
Dear Holy Ghost Prep senior families,
This afternoon, we held a virtual signing day during which eight senior Holy Ghost Prep student-athletes announced where they will live out their dreams of playing college sports.
The format of celebration, which can be accessed by clicking here, was online rather than in person but the spirit of the celebration remained intact—further proof that even though we're physically apart that the Spiritan bond within our community is stronger than ever.
The celebration warmed our hearts, and true to our Spiritan charism to meet your sons where they are, we will do everything in our power to ensure that the Class of 2020's signature events will take place.
If the restrictions are lifted in June, the Class of 2020 signature celebrations will be held on the following dates:
June 24: Graduation Practice and Senior Class Portrait in college t-shirts (morning); Junior/Senior Prom (night)
June 25: No Events
June 26: Baccalaureate Mass
June 27: Commencement
We will continue to monitor the situation and if we need to move these key senior events later into the summer, we will.
We have a few other Class of 2020-specific announcements:
- We are working with the Mothers' Guild to organize a graduation parade by car through campus to celebrate the Class of 2020 on their originally scheduled graduation date (Saturday, May 30). We appreciate the efforts of new Mothers' Guild president Becky Gabriele and her team of volunteers, and we will share more details soon.
- Our graduation awards committee is reviewing the valedictorian speeches at this time. After that process is complete, we will notify those who submitted a speech about our decision. Those not selected will be entered into the salutatorian speech selection process. Our graduation awards committee will also be surveying the faculty for senior awards. After that survey, seniors will vote on senior awards and our salutatorian speaker.
- The College Guidance Office needs the Class of 2020 students to report their scholarship information to Mrs. Kudla as soon as possible at tkudla@holyghostprep.org.
In addition, we have a few general announcements:
- Father Dan Sormani, our Spiritan Chaplain, will be celebrating Sunday Mass on May 2-3, 2020, beginning Saturday at 4:30 p.m. on our YouTube Channel, which can be accessed by clicking here. These services allow us to pray for the healing of those who are sick, wisdom for those in leadership, and peace of mind for those who are anxious during this COVID-19 crisis.
- We will offer a "Breakthrough" Zoom session with Holy Ghost Prep alum Anthony Geonnotti III '99, a virology and infectious disease expert at Johnson & Johnson, next Friday, March 8 at 1 p.m. Anthony will talk about his career, the effect that Holy Ghost had on him, and will also share his expertise on the COVID-19 crisis and how Johnson & Johnson and the medical community is responding. Sign-up information will be shared with all students via Schoology.
- Thank you for all the great feedback from our first Town Hall. We will hold our second virtual Town Hall meeting on Thursday, May 14 at 7 p.m. Please save the date and more details will be shared next week.
- The end-of-year Honors Convocation (for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors), originally scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, has been postponed and will be held in the fall.

- The deadline to opt out of AP exams is Wednesday, May 6. For more information on HGP's policy on the 2020 AP exams, CLICK HERE.
Please enjoy the gorgeous weather this weekend, and we will be in touch again this Sunday with "Happenings at HGP" and then again next Wednesday.
