Christmas Blessing
Holy Ghost Prep Fathers’ Association
Christmas Blessings Annual Community Outreach Program
Imagine for a moment that you were unable to provide a simple gift for your children or a simple holiday meal to share with your family. How might you feel? For some local families, this is a reality. We, as a Holy Ghost Prep community, embarked on a mission with Christmas Blessings. A mission to restore parental dignity by affording parents the opportunity to shop for their family using donated gift cards.
How the Program Works
- A Fathers’ Association volunteer coordinates with local parishes to obtain an anonymous list of families in need.
- An HGP current or alumni family or an HGP club or sports team “adopts” a family from the list provided.
- Gift cards are purchased for the stores indicated by the adopted family.
- The HGP Community is invited to a mass on 15th of December at 10:00am in the chapel, the day of distribution to the recipient families. The donated gift cards are collected immediately following the mass and sorted by parish location for distribution.
- Gifts can be dropped off earlier at the main office.
- When you turn in your donation please put the family code on the envelope.
- If you wish to make a monetary donation instead of adopting a family, click here.
What does it mean to “adopt” a family?
A good rule of thumb is to include a food store to supplement the family holiday meal and at least one gift per person in the family. For example, a family of five might receive a gift certificate to Acme for $100 and each member of the family might receive a $50 gift card to a gift store such as Target or Walmart.
We strongly recommend that teams and clubs consider adopting the largest sized families or selecting more than one family to adopt from the list.
