Early in 2013, Holy Ghost Prep began to investigate the possibility of welcoming international students to attend the school.  After an exhaustive review of many different programs, HGP has partnered with Edu-Link, a New Jersey based program that recruits students from around the world to attend high school in the United States.  Edu-Link currently places students in schools in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Michigan.

We selected Edu-Link for two primary reasons:  First, our local representative is Betty Patch.  Betty is a career Philadelphia area Catholic school educator who clearly understands the culture and history of Holy Ghost Prep.  Second, Edu-Link provides all the necessary services to accommodate the transition that international students must make in order to find success in the United States.  In addition, Edu-Link is the legal guardian of all of their students, meaning that both HGP and host families can enjoy the value of hosting students from around the world without the concerns of things like student-visas, health insurance or travel.

HGP plans to host 5 students in the 2014-2015 academic year.  All five of our new students come to us from China.  Two of the students are 9th graders and three of the students are 10th graders.  We are looking for some of our current and alumni families to help host these new students to provide a true HGP experience.

Along with the cultural benefits of hosting a student, families are also paid each month to cover the expenses of having a student live in their home.  Students have their own medical insurance, spending money and are responsible for any additional costs they might incur including joining sports teams or on campus programs.  Edu-Link also provides training and support services to ease the transition for both the host families and the students.
