HGP’s BYOD Policy

Students are required to bring a personal device to enhance the formation of young men at HGP.  Students are not required to purchase textbooks.  Books will be provided through the school.  With BYOD or Bring Your Own Device, students use their own computers or tablets for school purposes.  HGP provides secure WiFi for the students to use.  Students use their device in class and outside of classroom settings to stay organized, do research, and accomplish school related tasks, such as homework, projects, quizzes, and tests.

BYOD is the preferred policy for Colleges and Universities.  As a preparatory school, HGP wants to provide opportunities for students to prepare for college.  HGP is a traditional preparatory school that strives to prepare students for college.  Books and technology can be used together in a multimodal environment to enrich the learning process.  BYOD allows students to learn responsibility and decide which device is most comfortable to use.  Technology is a means to an end, not the end itself.  We do not want to waste classroom time on how to use a device.  Time is better spent on how to “read” information, rather than how to use a device.  HGP does not want to get locked into a long term contract that doesn’t meet the students needs and requires parents to pay for it.  One size does not fit all.  Students interested in Math and Science may choose a different device than students interested in Music and Art.

Students can spend what they feel comfortable spending on a device.  Rather than building money into the tuition, HGP grants the families the option to choose what works best for them.

HGP recommends the Microsoft Surface Pro 4, the Microsoft Surface Book, the New Surface Pro, or the Microsoft Surface Laptop (with Windows 10 Pro).  Don't forget to mention Holy Ghost Prep to receive a 10% discount at the Microsoft Store.

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

Professional Development

HGP faculty are required to complete 40 hours per year of professional development related to technology.  Levels of proficiency in topics such as Google Apps, Schoology, ExamView, TurnItIn, and website development are established.  Faculty can also create their own individualized tech plan to increase efficiency and take learning further.

Classrooms

HGP will begin “flipping” classrooms.  As the students and faculty spend more time on devices in the classroom, HGP will work to reconfigure the classrooms, to establish a more conducive learning environment.  This will allow faculty to make sure that the students are on task with their devices and students to be able to focus on the lesson.

School supplied functionality and security policy

HGP will supply high speed wireless internet throughout the campus so students and faculty can access all available resources.  HGP will also provide areas throughout the campus where students can charge their device safely and securely.  HGP has enough wireless access points throughout campus to accommodate every student using 2 devices (a phone and tablet).
