In light of the recent events, Holy Ghost Prep has created the Firebirds for Firebirds Fund to assist in preparing for unexpected financial hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our goal is to walk side by side with our students and families as we navigate this uncertain path. Our Spiritan charism calls us to embrace this opportunity as a watershed moment in the life of our school. We are committed to supporting those families most in need at this time, and we know the Holy Ghost Prep community will agree.
The Firebirds for Firebirds Fund will provide much-needed funding to current and incoming HGP families who have experienced layoffs, health issues, or other COVID-19 related circumstances that have negatively affected their household finances. Our primary goal is to utilize these funds for tuition assistance and other ancillary needs to keep Holy Ghost accessible to our current and incoming families. Our goal is to be prepared to help, and we hope that you will join us in this cause. To learn more about the Firebirds for Firebirds Fund, please contact Jackie Gear at jgear@holyghostprep.org
Since 2004, Rev. Donald McEachin, C.S.Sp. has served as pastor of the parish of Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza (Our Lady of Hope) in a poor barrio in the Dominican Republic called Villa Liberación. Here his challenges include high unemployment, poverty, food security for area residents, adult illiteracy, lack of access to education beyond primary school, and drug addiction.
Working with the town’s youth has been a constant priority for Fr. McEachin, since he believes that young people will ultimately provide the solution to the problems.
Since his arrival, Fr. McEachin and the Spiritans have created a job training center for adults, a children’s day care center, a new basketball gymnasium, two computer centers with internet access free of charge for school children, a music school, and most recently, a new parish technical high school (which teaches adults and teens basic life skills such as baking, hairdressing, and computer science). Money raised for Fr. McEachin’s parish would help to provide basic nutritional and educational support for the people of Villa Liberación.
As part of Holy Ghost Prep's mission trip program, HGP students have been hosting an annual summer camp for most of Father McEachin's 16-year tenure at this parish in the Dominican Republic.
